The RMS Steering Robot FER101/201 is an independent measuring system for the classification of the handling characteristics of motor vehicles.
Based on the rising requirements in the efficiency of the chassis of motor vehicles the requirement increases as well the examination of the dynamic driving characteristics of trucks and cars.
At present, these tests are still performed manually by many vehicle manufacturers. The test driver tries to retrace a given steering movement as constantly as possible. Studies have shown that these measuring travels are not sufficiently reproducible. Therefore it is necessary to perform these steering movements by a machine.
This is the purpose of the steering robots. The FER101 is designed for cars, the FER201 for trucks. With these robots it is possible to retrace steering movements of up to 0,1° exactly.
The RMS FER- System The crucial advantage of the RMS steering robot systems is the free definition of steering maneuvers by the user. Thus is also possible to intensify the defaults for examinations of DIN/ISO or NHTSA to test the limits of the driving dynamics of the vehicle.
In this case the user defines the steering movement out of standard components at a PC and then has the ability to create a user library for a number of different examinations.
